There are "styling sprays" meant to be sprayed onto the hair right before or as you curl it. These are the best for your hair, but cost more. Its no biggy to also just use regular "hairspray". Aerosol works best (comes out in a spray mist) instead of using a pump hairspray. Pump hairsprays are too wet. Anyway, LIGHTLY spray a section of hair, curl it, and hold for a couple seconds. Most important, too, is to get a curling iron that has temperature controls. It will have a dial 1-10 on it, so that you can control how hot the iron will get. If you have thick, black,coarse and shiny hair, you will probably need to have a hot iron, set pretty high. Be careful not to burn your hair, however!! lol And you will know if youre using too much hairspray because your hair will stick to the iron. Remember, use alittle spray but not too much!!

before she curls her hair when she washes it don't use any conditioner, and if you have to only use a little bit because the conditioner will weigh it down. Then for every section of her hair you curl, before you curl it spray a bit of hairspray on it, then curl it with the curling iron. hope this helps :)
